1. What to take with you:
gloves: for grabbing the chains for steep stairs climbing
napkin/tissues: because their toilets don't have that
money: to buy food/water on your way up/down. The prices are not low but reasonable
Your ID and other hiking necessities like:
water,
food,
clothes,
earplug and eyecover for sleeping,
a mask to protect you from smokers,
a camera and selfie stick,
handsoap for post-hike clean up(because you have to use your hands to do this hiking),
cell phone,
mosquito repellent,
first-aid stuff,
etc.
2. Where to live on the mountain:
There are multiple hotels there, you could book the hotels online like 携程 etc. The hotels usually provide hot water, which is a nice thing
3. How to get to Huashan:
I chose Subway + 高铁railway/train
You could book 高铁railway/train ticket from Xi'an Bei西安北 to Huashan Bei华山北 online or at the train station.
Xi'an Subway can take you to Xi'an Bei西安北station.
4. How to get to the mountain:
There are free minibus No.1 and No.2 . I took the No.1 . They can drive you to the visitor center of the mountain. Never trust any local drivers who aggressively try to persuade you give you a ride, which is usually expensive.
5. At the visiter center, you can decide whether to take the bus + cable car up the hill or hike. It's up to you. But you have to know that the nearst hotel on top is 6-hr away from the foot if you hike up. So be prepared.
